-I have an '89 LeSabre T-Type that is leaking fuel pretty bad. It's spraying out of the line coming from the sending unit. The dealership told me that I have to replace the whole sending unit to fix the fuel line, for $325!! I called NAPA and they have the sending unit for $99, but no fuel line!?! Can I just get a replacement fuel line and just replace it? NAPA said about just getting steel brake line and have it bent to the same shape, but they weren't sure how it mounted in the sending unit. Anyone here have any clues at all on this???
Thanks for any help, Matt D. |

They do make compression fittings that you can connect to metal lines together, though chancing it may not be the best idea for a fuel line.

-I also found some high-pressure rubber fuel line made for fuel injection. I think it said that it was rated at 900psi burst. It's around $5 a foot for it. Is it possible to just cut the fuel line where it's leaking and patch it with this? Probably put a flare on the steel lines to help keep it from leaking. Is this workable??
Thanks again, Matt D. |

You can do whatever you can afford. Look real hard at the safety end of it. It is fuel after all and exhaust lines run under there. A slight leak on an open exhaust can cause massive problems.
Professionals do not take short cuts. It's our license and reputation on the line. Drop a cheap sending unit (steel lines) and you will be safely on the road again.

-Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do. I found the sending unit at NAPA for $99. Then all I have to do is get some steel brake line and bend it the same way as the old one. The Buick dealership now wants $417 for the sending unit. But hey, it includes the fuel pump too.!!!
