2000 jetta fuel line leak help need advice!

My jetta had a little rough time starting, I pulled up to the atm, and could smell gas really strong, I though it was the truck that was in front of me. turn out I have a huge leak in the gas line, its in a really accessible place but, Im not planning on replacing it myself, the nearest VW dealer is 40 min away, but my local mechanic is 5 min away! Where should I go, I know the dealer will rip me off, but should I worry about getting OEM parts in this situation, so I need some advice. thanks

Taking your car to an independent mechanic will not void the manufacturer warranty (if there's any left on it). If it's a line, he'll probably need to use VW parts anyway - or just ask him to use VW parts if there is a choice of aftermarket parts. I too tend to like the OEM parts, but in some cases they are crap too - coils for example.

Yeah it is the line, I found the leak, its in between the engine and fuel filter, it looks like it was scraped on something, who knows, but I wonder if they will replace the whole line or just repair it, its cut right where the line clips to the underside, so Im guessing thats what caused it, well Im taking it in on Monday to my independant mechanic.

Have them fix it the way you want it fixed. If you feel comfortable with them splicing it or something, fine. If you want a new line have them replace it. You are the customer & you are paying for it, otherwise find a new shop.
