replacing shift boot with..

a metal plate that has "slots" for you to slide your gear in...

does anyone know what i am talking about? like a plate that looks similar to the lamborgini shift...

i do not like the boot look and looking forward to finding a plate that fits the 240... (one thing is that i like to see what gear im in....... hehehe)

does anyone know where i can find one? my friend is looking for one for his prelude too..... (mine isnt important yet, i'm mainly asking for my friend and hope to get future reference for my to be 240...)

and if anyone was following my dead 240 thread, it started raining so cant get the pictures....

thanks much in advance.

i actually did search, but not knowing exactly what that plate was called i really couldn't find anything on the net..

if u got a plasma cutter and a file, and a polishing machine, u got urself a gate maker

that would be really nice in a gunmetal or brushed alum. finish.

chrome is a bit much tho

If the 240 is anything like the Saturn S series, you wouldn't need one, the point of a shift gate is to limit the travel of the shifter. If you look at a Ferrari shiftgate carefully you'll notice the slots are angled to allow the shifter to be thrown from gear to gear as quickly as possible. A short throw shifter would be just has helpful as a shiftgate.

Example

Another problem is the shift lever may overlap itself not allowing any level to place the shift gate.

yeah but the fact that it looks alot better is good.

i would make one, regardless of what the fuck the shifter was like.

maybe i will make one..

i tink the best way to get it done is to use corrugated box cardboard.. get a nice outline, like cut out holes and shift into the to see if its good and doesnt rub much.

At first I thought it was a stupid idea, but now that I can picture in something other than chrome it sounds cool. Gunmetal or a satin chrome (like brushed only there are no brush marks...think flat chrome even though it's an oxymoron). Probly not something I would do, but I would drool over a nice modded sx with a few other unique interior ideas in it.

Ferraris have these. They look cool, but you'll have to be a lot more precise with your shifts. It'll be almost impossible to do "throw shifts".

The point of the gate is so you CAN throw it into gear without missing the shift
