2000 ranger 5.0L

after posting on this website and looking at different options, i decided on a 302/351W engine swap. but the problem is, i dont know much about cars/trucks and i was wondering if an engine swap in older style rangers (very popular) would be the same as an engine swap in a newer (2000) ranger. i looked and looked and googled but i dont see anybody swapping w/ 98+ rangers. thx for answers.
