Angry Tranny Problem

Hey I have an old Nissan Pulsar..88 or around there...the thing only drives in reverse, though. Is there a cheap way to fix it without buying a new transmission?

Turn your seats around, and figure out how to drive backwards...other than that, transmissions are rarely cheap, unless its something simple like the linkage. But it doesn't sound like that to me...Give me a few more details about it and I'll see what I can figure out.

What happens when you try to drive forwards?
Does it make any odd noises?
Does the shifter go into the forward gears normally?
etc.
