Perspective Corrado Buyer

I currently have a 2002 Celica GT, but I'm selling it to buy something hopefully faster. Its paid off so I have a good sized list of options of cars I can afford. Right now I am considering a 1999 Celica GT, and swapping a 3sGTE (around 230 hp) into it. But I am looking at differnt options as well. I've never had any experience with VW other then a guy I knew. He had this really queer 1998 Jetta GLS. He thought it was fast as hell with its mods, yet I beat him in every car I ever owned. Even a 1990 Acura Integra Rs with an automatic! Anyways its pretty clear my only contact with performance VW has been negative. But I'm still open, to one model the Corrado. What kind of performance can I expect from one? Obviously I'm interested in a VR6 model. How reliable are they? Do they handle well? I havnt seen many modded is there a reason? And how does one increase the power? I mean its a 6, and has an S/C and its only puts out 178 hp, and 177 torque? Those seem a little low, especially for a car that weighs 2808 lbs. I might as well buy an Integra GSR, with 180 horses, and still more potential since its N/A and there are tons of turbo and S/C options. But if you guys can give me some help and maybe point me in the direction of some enthusiast sites? I know there are several forums/sites specifically for the hondas and toyota models ive owned. Also how does the aftermarket support this car?

The SLC handles great and is reasonably fast, a great car all around. But compared to the G60, it's a noseheavy sob, all the extra weight of the VR6 is in the front. It's still one f the best handling cars of all times.
Either way, the VR6 is NOT supercharged, it's a 2.8L naturally aspirated narrow angle V6. The G60 on the other hand is a supercharged 1.8L inline 4. The VR6 is an expencive engine to modify, but it's a strong engine that will get you a long way with forced induction.

Reliable, well...

Hey, sorry but no wonder VW is the ford of europe. Not getting one of those, if they actually worked perhaps but since i'd spend so much time with it in the shop uh no. Besides 197 from a N/A V6 is still pathetic. Im going GSR, or Turbo Civic Si. Thanks for the help though.

engine life

Hi - im after a corrado, but i have a question first.

How many miles are the engines good for?? (generally speaking)
Im guessing the G60's wouldnt last as long right cos VR6 engines are made better.

If someone could help me out id appreciate it, cos all the corrados i see for sale have over 100 thousand miles on the clock.
