Just fitted turbosmart controller

hi guys,
just fitted the turbosmart 2 stage boost controller and it goes really good.
Also got a Speco boost gauge fitted and its fairly "jumpy" so could this be because of a kink in the hose somewhere???

And i am going to reset the ECU to accomodate the boost controller.
So should i reset it when its at the high setting (12psi)?

Does the boost happen to jump at 4500 by about 2psi? If so you probably still have the factory solonoid connected.

Jeff.

actually yeah it sorta does jump around 4000 - 5000 but the solenoid is definitely disconnected.
I unhooked the wire going to it, and also the hose, and blocked that up with a screw, so it definitely is not to do with that.

The gauge is fairly jumpy, as in its not as smooth as the factory gauge. So maybe theres a kink in the hose and as the pressure builds it lets in bursts of air which temporarily make it look like a higher boost than it actually is.

ATM it spikes to 12 for half a second then settles on 10.
Would i be safe to calibrate it to 12, so that it would probly jump to 14 then settle on 12????

Boost spikes with a bleed valve are normal, and no I wouldn't suggest letting it spike to 14. The main problem is you are pushing the turbo beyond it's intened peak. Nissan spent ALOT of time matching your turbo to give it's intended 7psi at the peak of it's efficiency. Pushing it it past will give you more power but the turbo is becoming less efficient.
Spikes are just something you have to deal with unless you get a good electronic boost controller.

Jeff.

hey Jeff,
yep ive got it set at about 11psi and it doesnt really spike over 12.
If i accelerate a little bit slower it doesnt spike at all, but if i stomp on the accelerator it will spike a bit over 12.

Also yesterday it spiked to about 13, and i heard this pop that came from the exhaust i think. Didnt sound like a ping, so do you have any idea what this was??? I dont....

GTr-8OY - I got the GTR bumper and grill, painted silver when i had it complianced and the compliance guy got it from unique auto sports i think.

It was probably a small backfire, as Skylines are known to run very rich when boosted. If that was what it was it's nothing really to worry about.

I had a ebc, took it out and installed a bleed velve, tonite pushing it very hard, it spiiked to 1 bar, which is bad, it started making that "pop" sound.....or it felt like i was just pushing out unused fuel, so on monday i think i'm gonna just get the ebc reinstalled, during the day it only seems to bleed down........but tonite after i reset the ecu in my r33, it started to spike to 1 bar, isit becoz of the change in temp or something? as tonite is abit cold
