Question Anyone know of a good cleaner wax!

What's up everyone....

I wanted to take one day and really detail my ride and wanted to know everyone's thoughts on a good cleaner wax/process that I could use. I've heard of clay bars and what now but I am unfamiliar in this area...

I'm usually just one to wash and wax (and religiously I might add) but I just wanted to give my ride a good cleaning along with getting any and all composites that might have built up over the years.

Right now my paint is in really good condition for a '97 so I want to keep it that way.

Any and all help would be most appreciated...steps, product info, do's and don'ts....give it all to me kids....

Thanks in advance...
Rod

ALWAYS work out direct sunlight

For cars with decent paint
1. wash/dry
2. clay bar
3. light polish
4. glaze
5. wax or paint sealant

Meguiars & Mothers products are decent over the counter supplies. Working by hand takes lots of effort with minimal results. Random orbit buffers do a slightly better job, but nothing can compare to a high-speed rotary buffer in the correct hands. If you have never used a high-speed buffer DO NOT try on your own car. Get proper training before using or you will do more damage than good.

Microfiber towels are great for removing waxes/polishes

The most expensive wax I know of & ever used

did detailing for a few years

Wash (duh)
use a clay bay (advance auto, pep boys, wally world has them)
there is a few people who have a 3 steep kit
Cleaner
polish
wax

meguires (i think its spelled close to right) has the 3 step system and should be easy to find, Zymol kicks butt too as said in other post. but do the clay bar first your car will be like plate glass
if you are good and sure with yourself use a real buffer (air powered is what i use but eletric is cool to) im not talking the random orbital buffer either...but you got to work with a good speed dont apply alot of pressure or speed or else you will burn the paint.....if you are goin to try buffing with a "REAL" buffer for your first time try it out on something other than your car something you could care less about (maybe you can find a junk hood or even try buffing the lawn mower for a first time try LOL) use the buffer to put the wax polish cleaner on and use hand power to take it off .... or radom orbital to take it off....read all instructions to!!!!!!!!!!!! hope it works out good for you

few other tips
oil for tire dressing or plastic motorparts~
Citrus Brite engine detailer (motor/under hood gloss looks like new)~
Purple power, super clean, simple green for motor/tire (not wheel) cleaning~
A GOOD all wheel cleaner with a soft brush or an actual wheel brush~
Clean fender well with strong cleaner let dry and paint flat black with rattle can...this is called blacking out~
you inside is to much ... as you may have leather, cloth, vinyl etc etc. its a pain to keep looking good but once again high quality auto motive interior cleaner and protectant works the best
On the lines of protectant 303 is the best by far.... REAL expensive and cound be found at most RV/Motorhome Dealers/Stores

Okay, I get the impression from your post you are looking to one step the finish. I am not a fan of one-step products, but if you are looking for a decend one step cleaner (polish) wax product, Auto Magic makes a product called White Magic that is decent. However, if you are looking to really bring out the shine, do as jackasssi said, and do multiple steps. He outlined the steps nicely, so follow that. The clay bar is designed to clear the surface of bonded contaninates. Run your hand over the hood, is it not as smooth as glass? spary body shine on the hood (water can work too, if you've never done it body shine gives a little better lube) and rub the clay over the sprayed area. fold the clay and repeat on a new spot. The clay takes away the bonded contaminents, leaving a smooth surface. This does not to mild cutting/polishing like a light polish or even a clear/wax to a certain extent would. It preps the surface, leaves it smooth as glass. Then you follow with the polish, wax, etc. As I stated above, White Magic (made by auto-magic, it's a professional detailing product) is a decent one-step product, but I personally don't like one-step products much, you'll be better off using the proper multi-step products. Refer to Jackasssi's post for that, he covered it nicely, so I won't repeat it.

Re: Re: Anyone know of a good cleaner wax!

1 thing about the clay bar - after the car is washed take a plastic baggie & put your fingers in - then rub the paint. Use clay bar & repeat baggie process. You will feel how much a difference a clay bar really makes.

Dont go rubbin' the bag all over your car - 1 small spot is enough to give you an idea.

If you drop the clay bar - BUY A NEW ONE! I always break clay bars into 3's & work with section at a time.
