Team. have a 95 Grand Cherokee limited..air conditioning flooding passenger compartment and rugs in front and back are soaked. Not sure where under the dash to look...water is running down along the passenger side of the hump. Looked for a chiltons book in the typical super book stores tonight but none there. Any ideas? Thanks

Is it coolant? Sounds like maybe your heater core went out. Not a fun thing to replace. Good luck.

Great responses....drilled a hole in the bottom of the vent inside the car (under the dash) reamed out with wire...then blew it out....problem solved. BTW...I found out...that is the dealer fix too. Thanks Bill

I am looking at a 94 Grand Cherokee for my Daughter and brought it home to have checked out and found the floor wet under the pasenger seat. Is the fix inexpensive enough to follow through with the purchase. My wife spoke to someone that had to replace the air conditioner in theirs to fix and the cost was 3,000. Just would like to be sure. Thanks for any information.

Re: Air conditioning leaking inside car
Baloney on the airconditioner replacement. turns out there is a plastic piece of the duct under the dash behind the glove box. You need to drill a hole (I used 1/4") and blow air in there. (I used a tire inflator) You should see water start draining through the frame of the car. As I remember the system is supposed to drain through the frame. And dirt collects in this runway. I did that...and plugged wth the stuff you seal outside faucets with...and voila...fixed. Also...I have since traded the Jeep in....was great for the 140,000 miles. thanks Bill

Re:Air conditioning leaking inside car
Same prob with my 98 JGC - since no one else posted a pic - I guess that the round hub was behind the drain port forward.
I drilled the hole (look out for a lot of water), reamed it out with a wire (no air avail) and filled the hole with a sheet metal screw (easier next time) ![]() Quote:

1. Pull the carpet down in the passengers foot well and locate the evaporator drain in the housing (See Illustration). 2. Drill a 1/4 inch hole in the center of the drain tube housing as shown. Clear the drain tube with a wire or suitable tool by inserting it through the hole and into the drain tube. 3. Insert plug, P/N 5255217 into the 1/4 inch hole drilled previously. 4. Verify that the drain is clear by operating the system in the A/C mode and observing that water is draining. |

Re: Air conditioning leaking inside car
I wish I had seen that drawing!
A small poke with a thin wire was all it took to free up whast gunk was in the hole - water started gusing out the bottom of the car immediately. Unfortuanately, about 2 quarts of condensate had already filled the passenger side the previous day. |

Re: Air conditioning leaking inside car
.... and I don't usually spell that badly.
and I think my self tapping screw is a better idea than a rubber plug or silicone sealant - I'm sure it will happen again some time. |

Ive got a question. just bought one with the same problem. when you drill the hole, does water come into the compartment there? and how do you get to the hose to put the wire through it?

Is the drain tube easily identifiable when you pull back the carpet?? I too have this problem on a 95 JGC. Thanks for your reply. |
