MSD ignition help, please...

Anyone installed an MSD ignition before?

I'm ready to hook mine up, and I'm trying to figure out the wiring for it. I'm using an MSD 6A, with an MSD modified distributor cap, and a MSD Blaster II coil.

My main question is do I have a Magnetic Pickup ignition, or a Points style ignition? There's two different ways to wire it depending on which I have, and I have no idea... I'd bet that it's Magnetic, but I have no idea.

Also, does my car have a ballast resistor? I think only if I have a Points style ignition right?

Do I have to wire my tach to the tach output of the MSD, or is that not necessary?

Hope someone can help.

points is pretty old school stuff (as im my 73 MG had one stock) ... so im willing to bet you have a Magnectic pickup ignition.

dammit, i had a huge awesome walk thru all typed up, and it gave me an error when posting

ill settle for just giving you the link to a diagram

here

just noticed you have a blaster coil as well. take the orange and black, and instead of hooking them to the stock coil, take the stock coil out and wire the orange and black wires to the blaster.

Perfect. That I can understand.

I had that diagram, and I was pretty sure that's what I needed to do, so thanks for clarifying.

One question though, should I just tap the other two wires outside the distributor, or should I run the wiring into the dizzy to connect to them?

Oh, and also, what about the tach? Do I need to re-wire it to the MSD box, or will it still run off the dizzy?

you shouldnt have to wire the tach up. it will work fine. and yes, you have to run the wires into the dizzy, well at least the two that hook up to the existing wires. because the wires hook up to other stuff in the dizzy, and are a different color than the ones on the plug that comes outside the dizzy.
