im putting an electronic ignition in my 73. I did all the good stuff, but after i installed it, it wouldnt start. so i set the points and it eventually did, ran great for about 20 seconds. It died, and now wont start. If i turn the key it cranks but jus wont spark like it supposed to. When i turn the key back to turn it off, it makes a loud grounding noise... i have no idea what this could be... please help!!

Re: 1973 el camino- electronic ignition. HELP
If you are changing from a ballast type to non-balast type you need to bypass the resistor wire to send a solid 12 volts to the positive side of the coil. If you have anywhere from 6 to 9 volts there at the positive side of the coil with the key in the on position that is what your problem is.

Re: 1973 el camino- electronic ignition. HELP
I realized this shortly after I posted reading again. You said that you put in an electronic ignition. Then you said you adjusted the points. An electronic ignition doesn't use points, was this supposed to be some kind of joke or are you serious or what?
