securing a sub box.

ok in my accord in the trunk my bazooka box fits perfectly between the floor and the top support bar in the trunk, almost so snuggly, that I have been driving around with it, and have had it slide out every once in a while, but now I am finally ready to secore that bad boy to the floor, but all that the floor is, it cheap cardboard covered in carpet. would it be a good idea to buy a sheet of 1/4-1/2 inch plywood, and tack that to the cardboard, ( I have no problem shaping it to the size and shape of the cardboard cutout) or would it be better to just do the whole thing with the plywood, and carpet the plywood? which would look cleaner? I also do plan to add dynamat, or some variation of it soon. and if I should carpet the plywood where do I get the carpet from to match the rest?

no, plywood is too heavy. It would be stupid. Go to your local hardware store (home depot) and buy some L shaped brackets. Something small and discrete. The smallest i could find were about an inch wide and about and inch long. They should have a couple holes in each leg of the L. those are for screws. The L brackets should say what kind of screws will fit the width of the hole. They are used for putting two pieces of wood perpendicular. These two pieces of wood substituted by the sub box wall and the floor of the trunk. And put them in the back so no one can see them.

Jeez, the advise i give is on stuff i have yet to get around to doing.

hmm, more drilling, why I asked about the plywood is that my board is getting kinda concave, from the weight of the sub box, and that's what I did for my tracer that I had before when water got into the trunk, and bent the spare cover all up. I don't really care about weight, I don't race this car, it's just for my fun (thump thump).

I read you're having a problem with your car as well, mounting R-1's in the front. send a pic of the brackets/seats, and your stock seat mount brackets, and I'll get back to you with a solution, I'm very good at this sort of thing.

I have 1/4" plywood in my hatch and it's really not that heavy. The only problem with drilling into whatever you plan on doing is if you needed the jack or spare tire some day.

For what your purpose is, and added weight not being a factor, plywood or MDF (mutli-density-fiberboard) would be fine. Sub boxes are usually out of MDF. I know of the concaved trunk covers you are taking about. Putting down MDF and wrapping it in carpet looked fine when I saw it done. If you wrap it in vinyl, you could do designs or words on it. Lay down body filler or similar on the MDF in the shape or letters you want, let it dry hard, and wrap the vinyl tight over it. The letters/design will be raised up. If done right, it can look kind of neat. Just an idea for you. Good Luck with it.

yeah, that would be cool, but for now I think I'll just tack some carpet onto 3/8 inch plywood for now.

That's what I did with my hatch to mount the bottle. Now that I don't have n2o I need to figure out something else to do with that space. I'll probably end up just putting the seats back in for practicality, or tearing everything out for weightloss... haven't decided yet.
