hmmmm 6 speed for 3g fit in 4g?

hey everyone i recently heard of a 6 speed trannie that was made for the 3g civic wagon now just a pipe dream but would it be theroetically possible to change the gears in the transmition and drop it into a 4g with minimal effort and make it a kickin 6 speed? if so has anyone tried it?

I think the 6 speed was a 5 speed with a low crawler gear to be used with the 4wd in the wagon. I could be wrong but this is what I have heard. It would be sweet though....

it sounds cool, but it would be extremely difficult, considering all the differences in motor mounts. plus theres the question of bellhousing to block bolting up. i dont know if it would, and ive never taken a 3g apart to notice. and like everyone else said, its a crawler gear, not much use for that unless you plan on making a mud civic.

ok i know it was a crawler gear but i was wondering if it would be practical to swap out that stupid crawler gear and all the other ones and turn it into a 6speed trannie, or is that too unrealistic. seccond of all i understand that a crawler gear isn't a drive gear but wtf is it? and what is it used for is that how the 4wd is engaged?

the ultra low gear is used for towing and going up hills. and there was an 88-91 civic awd 6 spd wagon so you'd have the right bolt up to a 4th gen civic..

even better..

hey in that case even better, is it possible to swap out the gears for other gears from other trannies. like for example some gears from a zc trannie and some other trannies, to make a nice 6 speed.

not saying its impossible, but consider this:

i tried mixing and matching gears from two trannies. the first was a JDM s1 tranny that came with my b16. i cracked the case on it from getting in a wreck, so i wanted to transfer all the gears except 5th (sucky short 5th) into a YS1 tranny i picked up from the 92-93 GSR. the GSR tranny is really nice gearing, but not quite short enough in 1-3 for my driving. so i planned on putting 1-3 (underdrive) from the S1, and leaving 4-5 (direct drive and over drive) alone in the YS1. but when i took apart the trannies, i learned that BOTH the countershaft and mainshaft are sized differently, an although they would both work on my b16, the internals on them are very different. one has only two shift forks, and the other has three. in fact the only thing that was the same in them was the differential, which i ended up swapping so i could get the YS1 running.

all this ranting has a purpose, its to show you that even transmissions that seem to be identical, except for the gear ratios, could be very different internally.

i guess what im saying is the only way you will know is if you find someone who did it, or buy both trannies and try it.

Yes there was a 6 Speed in the AWD Wagon. I had once read someones theory that you could drop a different final drive into the 6spd to get the gearing better. Not sure which one you would drop it but it is worth a try.

hasport doesn't normally do speed shop type work for regular joe's, but i'm sure if you threw enough money at them they would do it just to say they could... hell they put a K series in a 6th gen civic already...
