How to know if my Jetta needs new Clutch?
I have a 1995 Jetta. Last night while shifting from first to second, when I pressed my clutch petal, it went all the way to the floor with NO resistance. From then on, my clutch petal would not work at all. I had to have my car towed to my mechanic and I am currently awaiting the "good" word about what is wrong. Does this sound like the clutch went out or maybe (hopefully) just a cable or pin broke?
Also, whats the average cost for clutch replacement? |

Could just be the cable....
(Had to have SOME positive input...) You can look down in the engine compartment and see the cable. You could have someone hit the clutch and you could watch the arm move. But if it moves, then you've got a colapsed pressure plate or something liek that. Peace james

Hydrolic bad...
I agree... I was gonna say the same thing. 95 doesn't have cable clutch... actually I don't know of many new cars at all that still use cable clutches. Cheaper to fix than the whole clutch, but still annoying yes. Ahhhh I love my cable clutch and mechanical shifting rabbit...(so much more simple) Feels better too...
tell us what your mechanic said... who wins the right to knowledge? haha |
