Question What does it prove?

When you're at a stoplight and a guy pulls up next to you, what does it prove if he smokes you or you smoke him when the light turns green?

I don't know. What does it prove when a boxer knocks the other guy out? That the other was better trained? If we're not betting, does it matter? We can't really answer that, but we sure love watching the fiasco.

It's human nature to want to compete, and to want to see others compete. It's all nature until you let the competitive juices make your judgements for you.

The key is knowing when to back-off, stop, or not start at all.

Until then, we'll just keep on pondering human nature.

i think everyone pretty much covered the topic, but hell...

you came to the street racing forum.

what do you think it proves?

in that instant, for whatever reason, your car, or his car, is faster.

don't make me quote vin for this one.

winning is winning. it doesn't matter if it's an inch or a mile.

i believe that this smiley was made for you for asking this question.

this thread should get shut down...

IMO it seems that street racing doesn't involve a lot of skill.... you're just "competing" against some avg. schmoe with an ego.

In the above example about boxing, whether you're a boxing fan or not, the guys that step into the ring are seriously committed and are doing so in a controlled environment. They've earned the right to be there.

Street racing doesn't prove you're a better or worse driver than the next guy. It doesn't take any credentials. It just shows who's willing to mash the gas hardest on public roads.

I guess I don't 'get it'.

trust me there are good drivers out there. and there are very very fast street driven cars. so lets say i pull up to a viper. there is always on on deer park avenue. and if he can't drive for shit. and i beat him. then i get massive respect from imports. and i spend all this money turbo chargin my car for nothing. if i have nothing to prove and if everyone lacks skills, then my near stock 240 would've gotten the job done. however i want to compete with the big boys. so forced induction is the only way to go.

YOu prolly have an auto in your Teg...And with Auto's you are right...It doesnt take a lot of skill just smashing the gas at the right time...But with a stick it does becuase you have to determine when your powerband is and how long to hold a gear and....Damn there is a lot of factors when you are in a stick.

Hey there's no need to attack anyone because they asked a question...

For the record, my Teg is a 5 speed, it's stock and I don't care about how fast it goes. I love racing but I do it on tracks that require lots more skill than dropping the clutch at the right time. I've won races and championships in karts and have raced very well in Formula 2000 cars.

The reason I "don't get it" is because I know how to drive and in my book dragging someone at a light doesn't prove anything whether you win or lose.

It's only using 1 skill, the cars are always different (apples to oranges) and the other guy(s) could be fast, could be slow. I suppose if it's for the hell of it then that's the only justification needed.

Case in point. A heavy weight boxer beats the living daylights out of some guy on the street. Two heavy weight boxers go 12 rounds in a ring in the Olympics. It's worlds apart.

In the big picture neither case matters. But if you wanted to prove something, what would you do?
