alright, here we go.... the other day i was driving my little piece of shit car cause my tib was getting performance shocks put in........ i have a 1993 VW Fox... i raced a fairly new (1995-1999 ????) 318i on a little stretch of highway. i killed it off the line and then he caught up really fast and then we were about even, i was about to pass but a traffic light up ahead turned red when we were doing about 100-110mph...... my question is that i thought bmw's were a hell of a lot faster than that and what gear did he hit to catch up to me that fast, i think it was third but i wonder about the gearing in it if it was normal? it seemed kind of odd, second question is what is the top speed of those cars, cause my car is a piece of shit and from the way we were going i was gonna beat it and the guy probably was trying not to lose to a '93 VW fox.... cause that would be really embaracing. so basically im just wondering what kind of performance those things have cause it didn't seem like it drove the way it should.

318's are not that fast. With a little work they can be a little faster but you have to look at a total pic when comparing cars. Its a low hp 4 cyl and you don't know the condition of the car you raced. It could have problems, tune up wise, timing could have been adjusted for idle problems which in turn hurts bottom end. Not that those cars have any bottom end anyway.
