Shifter Question

My wife used to have a 95 Grand Am GT. My question is as I remember it, the shifter looked like a manual shifter knob with the button in the front.

#1 Is this correct?

#2 If this is correct, has anyone changed their shifter? I'm trying to adapt the shifter from a Grand Am to another car.
