Questions - I may want to buy a Caprice

I have a handful of questions that I'd like to know. I am looking to sell my Camaro privately for $7,000 and possilby pick up a Caprice.

1. What is a good year for performance?
2. What does the Police Pkg have that the consumer pkg does not?
3. Stock 1/4 Times for the 305 Caprice
4. Stock 1/4 Times for the LT1 Caprice
5. 0-60 times
6. Do they have Limited Slip Differentials?
7. What gear ratio come stock?
8. Horsepower/Torque ratings ect.

Answers to those questions will help me decide if I truly want to make the switch or not.

Thanks in advanced =)

The LT1's are in a class of their own. The
links on this page are all highly informative.

Performance in contrast to your camaro, will vary. First, you will be getting a heavier car. Deciding the year of caprice will all be determined in what you are looking to do in enhancements, and what not, as well as what you are trying to spend. I have an 83 caprice with the 305, and I'm putting a rebuilt engine in (old engine started to knock). I have a 427 rat, but my caprice was a cali car, and therefore has all the pollution controls, and what have you. I don't feel like tinkering with all that, so i'm going back stock. Contemplated putting dual exhaust on, but haven't decided. The police package cars will have sway bars, tighter suspension (heavy duty), and I believe the gear ratios vary slightly, than the regular models. A good option would be the 94-96 year models, because they are identical dimensions to the impala ss, and can take the LT1, along with various boosters to increase performance. The downfall, is the minimal gains, to get maximized you start comin outta pocket. Go old skool, and drop a crate engine, and go heavy with the big blocks, toss in a turbo 400, a nice holley carb, some flowmaster exhausts, get a posi rear end, and find a local junk yard and make some modifications to the suspension, and you'll be in business. But thats if you're looking for a project. so you've got a lotta choices, it comes down to your personal preference. Hope I helped somehow.
Good Luck!
