SHO Question

My parents have a 1998 Ford Taurus SHO which i am currently driving while my Civic is out, and i notice it has a 150mpg speedo. I was wondering what the top speed is in a stock 98 SHO or if there is a governer or what. I figure i may as well ask someone who has dont it or someone who knows what its set at, cuz i can't even go 10 over after getting my ticket. Im just a curious 16 year old, lol.

Lol no shit a 3.4 v8 compared to a 1.6 SOHC I-4. I was looking more towards a number (mph) that someone could tell me.

It should do about 139-143 MPH

I've never driven an 98 but my 89 SHO (3.0 YAMAHA V6 5Speed) did 136 in 4th gear at 7300 rpm GPS verified

Yeah up till '95 the SHO's only had a v6, and the '96-'99 has a 3.4L v8.

I had my 93 SHO 5-speed to 140mph. Im sure you could get that V-8 one there even though the 91-95 SHO are faster in the 1/4 mile

The V8 SHO went in a whole different direction from the V6. The V8 is a little more refined, but lacks the raw edge of the Yamaha. If you plan on keeping the v8 for a long period of time please check out the cam issue at www.v8sho.com This is a serious problem that can catch you off guard and leave you with a destroyed engine.

I have a 97 SHO and the computer shuts it down at 144mph, Now I have heard the later SHO's were govern down to a lower speed. But also heard of one that is chipped and the limiter gone "wrote out of the program" that could probley hit the 160's but never tried.....

That's would be phat to be rollin down the highway doin 160 passin cars left and right and havin them wonder "WHAT THE FUCK...WAS THAT A TAURUS THAT PASSED ME" lol. You gotta give love for the SHO's, their pretty damn quick. Too bad the 96-99 didn't come w/ an option of a 5 or even 6 speed...that woulda been sweet.

I heard from someone that they said they think the 98 and i think 99 is governed to like 120. This could be right because ive taken a couple things into consideration. First off if u just stick the car in neutral and rev it my car stops at 4,000rpm...and i know when driving in 4th gear at 60mph it is right at about 2,000rpm. So if there is a governer set for 4,000rpm in 4th gear that would be right about 120 at 4,000rpm right? I may be wrong but im just trying to put things together piece by piece, lol.
