Benefits of a cold air intake over stock ram air?

I'm new at the mod scene so I'm just curious about something. What benefits does having a cold air intake give you as opposed to the stock ram air in the GA GTs? I mostly just don't know where to start. Any ideas for some good beginner mods for a performance increase?

less restriction compared to the maze in the ram air... the raim air isn't even true ram air.. it's not direct to the throttle body. the cold air is more direct and straight to the throttle body, in a cooler away from the engine bay deal like the ram air... just honestly better though.
