Dual exhaust on '03 Mustang....

My mom and dad just bought a 2003 Mustang (3.8L v6). Dad was interested in getting duals put on it. What i need to know if there are cat-backs available for '03 v6 Mustangs? How does it sound? And if i had a local muffler shop bend some pipes, what type of muffler has everyone used and size of pipes?(dual out muffler?). I was thinking Flowmaster dual-out muffler with 2.5" pipes.

How its looking that it will be alot cheaper to have a local muffler shop weld on a 50series Flowmaster(with dual outlets) then run the dual pipes from there.

So basicly you want to run one Flowmaster muffler and duel tail pipes? Why, just for looks, or are you lookin to more power? You know there are companies that make true duel exhaust kits for the 3.8 mustang. Headers, h-pipe, and cat back. The h-pipe is designed to use a cat back from a GT. This is the proper way to to run duel exhaust, plus will give you the best power increase that the 3.8 needs. check out the site Los already mentioned, and this one Racer walsh.

Well dad is 55 yrs. old so power is not his concern. He basic wants the look of duals with the a better sound. So thats why i mentioned a dual out Flowmaster. That will give him a good exhaust rumble. I did see the true dual catbacks. Do you think the FLowmaster setup will work OK and give that nice tone? thanks

Sure it will work, but just remember that the sound of a 3.8 will not rumble like a V8 will.

Cant he use a GT exhaust? I wonder what kind of sound it has on a V6. I cant believe some of the sounds the V6 has. Last one I heard sounded like a ricer.
Mac makes some pretty good exhaust.... Sound that is, many people say their quality isnt the best

Can anyone tell me what size pipe comes into the muffler (2.5 or 3") and is the inlet on the muffller center or offset? What would be the ideal size out from the mufflers?(2.25 or 2.5'') trying tio figure out what type of flowmaster i need.

yes, very well said. you must run true duels to make it sound pretty good. I did read that someone mention 50series mufflers? I don't like that idea that well. That muffler is designed for the bigger V-8's. It might not sound too bad, but probably won't help power at all. I would go with the 40 series myself. You don't have to run an H-pipe, but i recommend it. I think it would be cheaper to just take it in to a muffler shop and have them do it. You have to buy the mufflers tho. What they will do is run duels off the headers straight back.

2.5'' offset inlet and outlet. In order for the muffler to fit up right, the case length must be 13''. You need a 40 series muffler(the original, not the delta flow). 50 series are too big and the 30 series sound great on V-8, not with V-6's.

Ah yes I have a question about duals.. but from Borla Inc.

They make a dual splitside exhaust package (especially made for the 3.8L). This, in theory looks very sweet on my 3.8L and I'm almost to the point of buying it for the car.

I hear Borla is extremely loud, but it is high/highest quality in my opinion and well worth 850 bucks. What's the sound like from Borla? (in comparison to other things)

My question is whether or not the change the headers along with the exhaust. If I had to... or better yet if it was a much better idea to... should I do it b4 the Borla? Should I get long or shorty headers? Would I have to change 02 sensors to compensate for new setup? I've heard that I'd have to do this (maybe it was for an sc though...)

stangparts.com has a GT-v6 exhaust conversion. From there, just get 2 1/4 inch mufflers and have them welded on. 2 1/2 would probably be overkill for a 6.

Most performance part is pure opinion. I think Borla sound is weak and they are way overpriced. But that is my opinion.
Headers will add more power and maximize your new cat-back. Which one you do first doesnt really matter.
LTHDRS or Shortys depends on what you want for power. Unless your going to use nitrous or a SC then LTHDR might be a lil-overkil.
With LTHDRS you need to use O2 extenders but not new O2 sensorsl

I was thinking about one or the other... shooting for 400 will take some time on the 6 shooter ya know? I'm looking at blowers b4 nitrous...

The sound of Borla? Better question: does it sound anything like Flowmaster... because I reaslly do hate that sound. Sorry guys that love it to death.... but I absolutely hate that water chugging sound when it's put on v6s... Ive heard it on a guys stock v6 firebird and ... ya well it was disgusting. Also heard it on ss Camaro, thought it sounded better but not really what I'm looking for. I heard a nice sound out of a camaro... although I don't know if it was SLP or some different kind of exhaust... had a more formula sound to it but it definitely wasn't coffee can sound (Ive actually seen on a camaro omfg... sound like dying cat on megaphone!). I don't know I need to talk to a guy w corvette Borla and see how it sonds to me.

If I go w LTHDRS, would I have to shorten the exhaust pipes? Can I install headres without changing the single exhasut?

Im not a big Flowmaster guy either. Borla is kinda quiet IMO but also way too much money. The two V-6 Stangs I've heard had MAC and Bassani. Im more of a Mac fan but the Bassani sounded much better on the V-6.
IF you goto LTHDRS you need some sort of shorten y,x,or h-pipe. Mac makes all the parts for a V-6 stang
