I just bought a 97 accord and the driver side door wont lock from the inside. The only way to lock the door is to get out and lock it with the key from the outside. Does anybody know... is this a safety feature or is there something wrong with my door lock? I have power locks.

Don't know if this will help you but I'll send it anyway. it is a copy of a
letter I posted here months ago regarding a similar problem on my 97 accord. Taking the door panels off is simple too. Just keep looking for screws, don't forget the ones in the arm rest. This may get to you to late, but what the hell: I hope you get this before going to a dealer. I just finished moments ago repairing my window/door locks. I started by removing the door panel which is actually quite painless. After some time using my multi meter and tracing wires, I found the problem. Right at the front of the door [with the door open, the flat spot in the door panel where it meets the dash when closed], there is a depression in the door itself. This depression holds a circuit box for the door locks, a relay for the same and two or three wiring harnesses that connect all the door lights, windows etc before going through the door into the cabin and fuse box. The first thing I noticed was a small pool of water in that depression. One of the wiring harnesses is coated with felt and this absorbed the water and eventually it seeped into the harness itself. Two of the connections inside were so badly corroded, they were actually completely gone. I had to remove each wire pair that had a bad contact in connect them separately outside of the harness. Everything worked after that. thank God it was warm today here and I found the motivation to investigate before going to Honda on Monday and dropping $62 for a new relay; which is what I suspected the problem was initially. Almost all Honda's have that feature. It's so you can't lock your keys in your car. After you get used to it, it actually ends up being a really good feature.
P.S. Unless you're saying that nothing happens at all when you hit the button on the inside. It is supposed to lock but after opening the door, and shutting, it unlocks itself. |

When the door is open, lift the handle on the outside, and push the door lock on the inside at the same time. It will lock all the doors.
