91 Double Trouble

We just purchased a 91 Park Avenue with 170K miles. There are two problems with the car.

1st...There is a hard grinding noise coming from the right front wheel. We were hoping that the bearing was bad (and still not sure). The noise also seems to be coming from the transmission housing. I guess I should mention the wheel /tire looks like it had a very hard rub on a curb. Any suggestion?

2nd...The car was running while it was jacked up to check where noise was coming from again. The engine made click sound and shut off. We've check all fuses and removed plug to check for spark and/or fuel flow. The engine does crank, but did not spark. Any suggestion?

For the first time in a long time, I'm stumped.

As for problem #1- the brakes could be binding, have them looked at once you get it running. It might be the CV joints as well.

As for problem #2- this is where I'm stumped. What sort of click was it, a gentle one, like an AC compressor turning on, or an explosive click, could be anything at the moment.

Problem # 1- tman is right. Get the brakes checked. Could also be the bearing.
Problem # 2- With that kind of K's on it, get it scanned or try and pull the codes out of it. Hopefully it will give you a good clue as to where the problem is. It could be a cam, crank, module,ecm and / or timing chain movement. There are too many tests to check this problem out. Your best bet is to go to a library and look up the diagnostic tree for no start.

Most likely the click was a relay shutting off! Which one I don't know.
