Cat Back ?

Well, I finally found someone in this town to make me a custom exhaust, but I have a question...I was told that the cheapest way to do this is to buy a Bomb Muffler on Ebay and have the pipe bender put that on. But when looking for the muffler, they all say they have a 2.5" inlet. I thought Integra's were supposed to have 2.25" pipe. Is this going to be a problem for the guy? Or is this just how it goes? If this kind of muffler isn't going to fit, what kind do you guys suggest?

I got a vibrant muffler and I have to say it is one of the best sounding mufflers I have ever heard, it sounds alot like the RSR exhaust and it is a straight thru style, but it is not loud at all just in the upper rpm range but even then you can still hear the intake over it. That is how you know if your exhaust is too loud( you cannot hear the intake over the exhaust, except ppll with cai they sound alot quieter inside then a short ram) IMO.

How much do you think I can get one for? Where?

Sorry, nevermind. I was just being lazy. I found one on eBay. If anyone else has a comment, I'd still like to hear it. I'm still lost on the whole 2.5" 2.25" thing. Thanks!

I'm sorry for bumping up this topic, but I am kind of in a hurry. The auction ends in like 17 hours and I want to make sure I don't screw myself. Will an auto shop have problems mating a muffler with a 2.5" inlet to the 2.25" pipe that is supposed to be from the cat to the muffler? And it is suposed to be 2.25" for an Integra LS right? Please excuse me if this is a stupid question.

Also, how restrictive is the stock exhaust? Will this really give me any noticable gains without aftermarket headers or high flow cat?

No, the muffler shop will make a pipe that will fit over both. Most muffler shops have pipe benders and pipe expanders. I wouldn't worry or lose sleep over the 2.25 to 2.5inch thing.....

Yes, but don't worry about the size, 1/4 of an inch is not a big deal.

When you have a stock cat, stock resonator, and stock muffler....its gets quite restrictive. I doubt your stock muffler flows more than 260cfm (cubic feet per minute). A performance muffler will give a noticable gain, even if you don't have aftermarket headers or cat.

If you help the car breathe better through both ends; intake and exhaust then youcan see a difference in your 1/4 mile times and better performance on the upper end of the power band. I would suggest tightening valve lash as well to get a bigger cam effect. The you will see the gains

Valve Lash is the clearance (space) between the bottom of the valve stem and the top of the lifter stem. If you do not adjust the valve lash, your valves will not close completely when the engine reaches operating temperature due to the expansion of metals. Removing material from either the valve stem or the lifter stem to create this clearance.

This would have been a good topic to bring up in Engineering/Technical.

So basically, just get your valves adjusted every 15,000 miles?

That is the worst thing i have ever heard! Don't do that it will screw up your cams, rocker arms , and valves! Keep the valve lash within spec and nothing else.

Kilboy57: No it is not good to remove metal from the valves or rocker arms, this is just what happens when you have the valve lash too tight.

loesch8102: every 30,000 miles is the norm.

Well, you know, it depends. You need to remove materials to get the valves to close completely and create clearance. There is a special tool to check this with.

You should keep the lash adjusted close to with in the factory specs. Adjustment too tight will screw everything up and could even have piston and valve clearance problems. However there are tool to do the job right. I didn't mean that you should remove material either. I was just refering to adjusting through tightening the screw above each valve until they are snug. Every integra that I have had has needed this adjustment because it is often overlooked. Keep the lash snug and not too tight.
