who wants a McLaren owners manual?
Hi All.
Not sure about the validity of this on e-bay, but thought you would know for sure. ie: excess manuals (without chassis number imprint) were made? check out ebay; Item #2422623194 Any thoughts?? Photos attached for your perusal..

That looks genuine to me. I have read both front to back. It's nice that the Seller put the first page on the web too. It's also good that the Seller has a very high satisfactory rating.
As for extra copies of the manual lying around I would not dismiss that right away. Somewhere in the manual it says that McLaren originally planned to build around 350 of the F1 roadcars.... I wouldn't mind having one of these myself!

update on the manual..
was trying to get hold of a mate who used to work at McLaren before posting yesterday, but couldnt.. he just emailed me saying this is definitely real, and answered my original question..
drewwtms was on the money with his answer.. apparently, the printers produced 500 manuals.. 350 for cars, some for internally use -- the mechanics/techies/marketing and sales people, and the remainder kept in the inventory for customers who lose or destroy their original chassis number embossed one's etc.. im looking forward to the bidding war!!

looks like it will go through the roof etc..
hmmm.. i tried to go direct and offered the guy 170STG one hour after the auction was launched... he didnt respond.. i have asked a buddy in the collectibles trade, who thinks it will go for > $750 USD.. he bought an XJ220 owners manual for $500USD in 2001, so it should beat this figure easily.. *sigh*
and the mrs just crashed the car today *another sigh*

He emailed me the same images. Surprisingly, they made me a little less enthusiastic about the item. I'd still love to have it, but was surprised to see so many common sense warnings inside. The McLaren Cars legal team must have had a lot of fun re-writing it. He told me that he got the manual from a friend who worked for the printer and that it was one of the first few off the line. Sounds fishy - as I doubt that McLaren Cars was ever handing these out.
Is anyone else here still interested in bidding on it btw? It sounds like three of you are out. I guess I'm in till about $500 or so - we'll see... >8^) ER

Well someone wants this thing pretty badly - the current bid is £510.00 or roughly $834.97 and there are still almost 3 days left.
 I'm kind of suprised that the price has gotten so high but I'm not really that sad that I won't get to own it. Anyone else still in the running here? >8^) ER

There was kind of a strange outcome to the Owner's Manual auction.
"The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale." A lot of times people will pull their items if they receive a better offer outside of Ebay. Maybe he was just not happy with the price - last time I saw it, it was at £560.00 or roughly $920 USD. I'll email him and see if he will tell me why he pulled it before the end... >8^) ER

I have an owners manual
I have an orginal owners manual!
I have seen one sell on ebay today for £510 which was a second and mine is in A1 condition so i'm thinking that it may be worth a little more than that. I got hold of the book as one of my relatived worked for the book binders that produced all of the books for McLaren. I am thinking of selling it via Ebay but wanted to guage what the market would be like for this this type of thing....... Be interested in peoples thoughts.....
