Really not too much is different between the two accept for physical differences. Maybe 1hp. From my experience, I'd say stick with the short intake. They sound awesome, there are no worries about rain, puddles, whatever. If you get a short intake, make sure you get rid of the resonator box that channels air around in circles under the air box though. I can give some instructions on how to get rid of that thing if you get the intake.

CAI gives more horsepower an a very nice sound if it's the bloody engine yer worried about spend the extra $60 and get an AIR BYPASS VALVE. they are designed to allow CAI users drivability in the rain and puddles without any loss in horsepower...only bad thing is that it might add almost 12oz. to yer car (weight)

wait i thought bypass valves took off like 1 hp? i have a CAI and its loud as hell 2250-2750rpm then almost silent 3000-3750rpm then hella loud again 3750+. my short ram was a little quieter but you heard it through the whole band. i got the cai just for summer cuz with short ram my mileage started to go down because the air was too hot, so i got the CAI. planning on getting a bypass valve if it doesnt take away horsepower, i was just going to put the short ram back on once winter came back

1st, the cai has to be completely submerged for the by-pass valve to work (been tested an proved), so ur motor can still technically get hurt.

i personally don't think a cai is going to matter all that much (which is why i went for sri), but its really jus personal pref. either way, ur not going to see any huge noticable gains.

DO NOT BUY GENERIC!!! at the very least get the specs of AEM and make your own! AEM is probably the best CAI available...DO NOT GET AEM V2...JUST BECAUSE IT'S MORE EXPENSIVE DOES NOT MEAN IT GETS MORE HORSEPOWER!!! DYNO'D AT LESS THAN THEIR (AEM) CAI. if u really want generic go to ebay and find something for less than $60... AEM with bypass valve usually runs about 220. o and if u ever plan on going turbo this is a backwards step financially...mine is on only because it was a gift

i have a CAI and a short ram (CAI is currently installed, short ram is on the floor). which one should i use? they are both generic. the tubing on the short ram is wider but it takes air from the engine compartment rather than underneath the car.

i was gonna buy a bypass valve once it got to the rainy season.

KrNxRaCer00 you're saying that even with a bypass valve you can hydrolock your engine? so i should go back to the short ram during the rainy season??

Have any of you ever heard of the Comptech Icebox? Its a CAI that is supposed to not suck up water...

http://solar.innercite.com/comptech/330122.html

Does anyone have one of these, or heard anything about them? I was thinking about getting one... I'm not sure if it uses a bypass valve... I got the impression that it didn't and had some other way of not sucking up water...

The tubing size only has significance if it is smaller than the inlet to the intake manifold. If your CAI has the same size or larger than that inlet, it doesn't matter.

BTW, the intake I have is a K&N Typhoon. It's a shortty.

That Comptech looks like you might as well just keep the stock intake and remove the resonator. That's probably all it is. Just another "buy this" POS.
