Question Which exhaust is right for me?

I've got a 94 ls. I'm looking for a complete exhaust system (catback + header)- i believe that covers engine to muffler? I'm probably gonna stay na. I'd buy a new car before I went turbo. Maybe i would do an ls/v-tec conversion. I don't do a lot of racing so most importantly i want mid range power. Would a type-r catback be good? If so, would type r headers fit? Would i need different headers since type r headers are 4-1 and i've heard that 4-2-1 is good for mid range?

this isn't an uncommon question... you'll prolly get better results doing a search in the forum... you should be able to find some answers that way.

Re: Which exhaust is right for me?

It is hard to tell you which exhaust is good for you. We don't know about the level of loudness you will be wanting etc. Yes the 4-2-1 header will be better for the mid range power. I have the ITR exhasut and if you like a quiet exhaust almost as quiet as stock then it is for you.

Re: Which exhaust is right for me?

i kindof want a quiter exhaust anyways. I was reading about exhaust systems and i learned that you need you i/h/e to all match in order to get the best results. Is it a stock type r header the best match for a type r catback? will a certain kind if intake give better results with the type r header/catback combo? right now i've got an ebay short ram...
I'll also do a search about this, see what i come up with. thanks for the replies so far

Re: Which exhaust is right for me?

are usdm itr catbacks different sized than jdm? if i buy a usdm itr header, will i need to do modification to get it to fit a jdm itr catback? I have looked for this information but i couldn't find it. If anyone knows of a page with a comparison of the jdm vs. type r comparisons, let me know, there has to be one out there

Re: Which exhaust is right for me?

GS-R exaust is the same as a LS, and the Type R header w/ ITR cat back exaust should fit a 94 DC2. You will ayso need a cat, but I would just get a test pipe 1/4'' smaller than the rest.

Anyone have Tanabe Racing Medallion exhaust? Considering buying it, wondering loudness levels with and w/o the silencer, but I know for a fact that is is very deep.

I have a Thermal R&D Stealth cat-back. It's all SS, and was designed for torque, at lower to mid rpm's.And it has a real nice deep sound, sort Ferrari'ish(if you can figure that 1 out ). I payed $400 from a local shop in N.H. A real nice exhaust that I would highly recommend.http://www.thermalrd.com/pics/b101c101.jpg

Thermal R&D has recently introduced the ST line of exhaust systems built specifically for street performance. These systems are designed to create a mellower exhaust sound. These systems feature the same great look and quality as our CL systems. ST systems are tuned towards low to mid-range power and are recommended on mildly modified vehicles.
