98 lumina brake lights and turn signals not working

At first the high beans and wipers did not work changed the combination switch and they work but the turn signals and the brake lights still do not. All fuses are good.

Re: 98 lumina brake lights and turn signals not working

Please provide more information. Specifically what does and does not work?

When you turn the turnsignals on, do the bulbs front and rear turn on but just don't flash?

What happens when you turn on the hazard / 4-way flashers?

Do they not illuminate front and rear?

When you step on the brake pedal do the turn signal indicators in the instrument cluster light up, but the brake lights do not? Does the Center High Mount Stop Lamp (CHMSL) work?

Do the parking lights work find front and rear?

Have you checked for ground and power to the brake light and turn signal sockets when the brake pedal is depressed?

The headlights and turn signals work, tail lights work third brake light works. What doesn't is the turn signals hazard lights front and rear dash doesn't show blinkers, brake lights don't work. That's it. Parking lights work. Brake lights do not work, center mount light works, yes have check ground and wiring

If brake light bulbs are good, suspect brake light switch. Center brake light will still work with bad switch.

Re: 98 lumina brake lights and turn signals not working

If the multifuction switch has been replaced, the brake pedal switch has been replaced, and the brake lights do not function, the voltage from the B+ will need to be traced from the source, through each switch, and through the harness. Is fuse 23 intact? Is there 12V at both ends of the fuse?

Replacing parts is not always the solution. A detailed diagram of the chassis wiring will be necessary.

Electrical is not my best skill but yes fuse 23 is in tact and there is 12 at both ends.

That eliminates the "easy" options. The rest will be tracing/measuring the wire harness.

Do you have a diagram for the lighting system? Mine shows that the power supplying the brake pedal switch via an orange wire (Fuse 23). If that brake pedal switch is intact and functioning, the power is then sent to the mutlifunction switch is via a white wire. Everything after that is within the switch and then the body wiring downstream of the switch.

Since the CHMSL (center) brake lamp works, that's a clue. The replacement mutlifunction switch may still have a problem, since all power for the hazard and stop lamps is controlled through that, EXCEPT the center brake lamp.
