Possible Cause For C.E. light?

The codes pulled were misfire on #1 and #4, low EGR Flow, and intake manifold runner control. Having fooled with Fords for a long time I assume the EGR justs needs a cleaning. But what about the other two?

Think maybe it's a bad coil (pack). Does some kind of module control the intake manifold runners? It's split port induction engine.

Vans symtoms: While riding down the road the CEL will come on and the van will jerk and mis-fire badly. Then that will clear up and the light will stay on. Would I be correct in saying the codes are related to each other (with the exception of the EGR)?

Thanks,

Gerald

I just looked at my subscriptiong to alldatadiy.com (I recommend you pony up the $20 to get what you need for your vehicle). I have it for a 1999 van, so the things to check may or may not apply.

Misfire:
Check the ignition system (that's helpful), fuel injectors, low fuel in tank, EVAP canister purge valve, fuel pressure, EVAP emission system or base engine (I have no idea what base engine means).

Low EGR flow:
vacuum supply, EGR valve suck closed, EGR valve leaks vacuum, EGR flow path restricgted, EGRVR circuit shorted to pwr., VREF open to DPF EGR sensor, DPF EGR sensor downstream hose off or plugged, EGRVR ciruit open to PCM, VPWR open to EGRVR solenoid, DPF EGR sensor hose both off, DPF EGR sensor hoses reversed, Damaged EGR orifice tube or solenoid or PCM.

I think you are right, the issues are related and you just have to find the single problem. I don't think you have a bad coil pack, I've found they either work or don't. Plus I wouldn't want to try to change that, it is in a terrible place on my van, I'm sure it is on yours.

I would check out the EGR circuit and vacuum system first.
