Question B18B1 LS/Vtec Conversion

Hey I dont know much about v-tec etc etc just gathering info. I'm looking into doing a v-tec conversion on my 1999 Acura Integra GS. Ive heard that a JDM B16 Head is the way to go. Ive also heard that the B18B1 block isnt built for the high reving of a v-tec conversion? I read that if I replace the pistons that my block will be able to handle the high reving?? What all would I have to do to have a steady safe engine that won't break or wear out in 20,000 miles since its my daily driver. Any help and info is appreciated I'm just gathering info for when I decide to do this conversion. (or when I decide to find a shop to do this conversion for me lol) Thanks alot.

And when I do it I'm also looking at switching to a JDM ITR ECU. Good Idea? Possible?

Re: B18B1 Vtec Conversion

Just to let ya know I -DO- have a B18B1 LS engine and a LS tranny that is boosted with a Greddy T4 turbo and a true cold air intake. And lemme tell ya man....I absolutely LOVE it! I thought about doing a Vtec on mine but then I got to thinking that it really doesn't even need it. Right now I am just running 8lbs of boost and the turbo is capable of 20lbs and even at 8 it is kick ass. I mean seriously, how many people can come on here and boast that tey beat 2 cars at once in a drag race on an interstate? I can. hehe Beat an Acura Integra and a new Jetta at the same time and like I said only running at 8lbs of boost. I am about to give it 12lbs so believe me, you will NOT be disapointed. I wasnt. I mean I went from a SOHC D16Y7 because I have a 4 door 97 Civic LX and now I am running it on a B18B1 Greddy T4 Turbo car. It's great. Oh and while your at it you might wanna think about Chroming the ECU. That is what I did and it helps alot. But yeah the long gears make it worth it because that means when the other guys are shifting you are stiiiillll going. hahaha Oh and the place I got this done was out in Portsmouth, VA by a guy named Jamie and Goods Automotive. He is a stock car racer who has been to Nascar and the such. So he knows everything there is to know about engines. Plus I own my own buisness customizing cars so I know a little bout engines too. Also take into consideration that in my civic I am also hauling an audio system from hell which is alot of weight, a fog machine, and many other things. My car is HEAVY. So I promise you man, you will not regret leaving it an LS with an LS tranny. Not saying a Vtec would not make it better, of course it might, but yeah you would end up spending alot of money that you could get something else to give you just as much power for less. Ok well I think that is it. Hope I helped. Tak care.

Dude... 4 year old thread.... and Mr. Fast and Furious... dont make me start calling you on your BS.. and beating an integra and jetta is no great accomplishment.... esecially considering my DETUNED, Lowered compression, motor built for a turbo (but still NA) Civic has a kill list far more impressive than your "Chrome" ECU.... and by the way its CROME not CHROME... So please... i want you to make me eat my words.. post pics with a spec sheet of exactly what was done to your motor and in them i want to see you flipping my off... cuz anyone can say they have all this crap done to their motor.. but no one will believe you until you PROVE it.

Re: B18B1 Vtec Conversion

hey greenblurr chill this thread is for isn't for rippin on mr.fast&furious guy its for answering the vtec Q. for starters i'd go with the Golden Eagle Mfg. VTEC Conversion Kit. the B18B1 should be fine and as for the heads i'd go with a GSR head, there problly the easiest to find and work fine

Re: B18B1 Vtec Conversion

My car is tuned using crome. But before I got the car back I had downloaded Dataloger from the Hondata site thinking it might work with Crome as well as the program Jamie had already put on my laptop called ECU Control 5. That is why it still says Hondata. Like I said, I need to update some things.

Re: B18B1 Vtec Conversion

Hey I dont mind posting some new pictures of my motor and the such sense I have to anyway but why on earth would I spend a couple hundred dollars for a dyno test (around here at Millenium Autosports it's 500 dollars) just to prove to you what I know my car can do? I mean I don't mind posting a lap time slip (only track around here is only an 8th of a mile track) but you will have to wait till April or May because they are closed for the winter seasion. But like I said I dont mind posting some new more in depth pics of my engine on myspace sense I need to anyway. Qite frankly I dont see what part of any of this is hard to believe. Is it that I paid 4,500 dollars for the setup? If you wondering how I paid so little it is because I own my own buisness building cars called JRC AutoSports along with my wifes aunt Cindy. Only we cant do anything as far as engines. I met Jamie when I bought my Eclipse from him a year ago and sense then we have built a buisness relationship with him. We do body, paint, audio, video, etc for him and he does engine work for us all for a huge cut in price. We also recommend customers who come to us (if they want engine work) to go to Jamie and in return he sends his customers (who want anything else other than engine stuff) to us. So if it is the price then maybe that will shed some light on it for ya. Other than that I dont se what is so nonbelievable?

Re: B18B1 Vtec Conversion

so when this guy tuned it he did so without a dyno??
and i see from your pics you have the car youre talkin about... im just curious as to what your setup puts out for power is all... and 4500 for a turbo setup is actually a bit pricey... so i thought maybe it included a nice dyno tune

Re: B18B1 Vtec Conversion

A dyno, I wish. He is getting opening a new shop by this summer so he will have one. But no, he just had to run the car every time he adjusted it. Plus on ECU Control 5 they give you a program that is kinda close to a dyno. But I tell ya he did a damn good job. But as soon as he gets a dyno at his new shop I am first in line for a free dyno run. But seriously the tune is sound. I've had a many people ride with me and say the same. People with Skylines, Supras, and the such. And it feels perfect to me so until he gets a dyno, I am happy. hehe But you better believe as soon as I get a dyno run done on it I will definatly post the results on myspace. hehehe I love boasting. As I am sure many people love to do.
