what type of engine?

hey, i was just curious what type of engine you guys think i should use for my car, its a 1967 mustang coupe, i'm doing a restortion on it and i'm not sure type of engine to use, i don't care about emissions, sound laws, gas mileage, insurance, ect ect... so just post what you think
btw, i have a 289(v-8, to whom may not know) right now, but i've been thinking of getting some size of a FE and boring and stroking it to a 427 or a 428, but the parts are expensive and hard to find, so i was also thinking of going for a 385B, and boring and stroking it out to a 514 or so, anyway, post what you think, thanks

Why not an 03 Cobra engine/Tranny? What better way to spend $12-14k?

I'd stroke a 351w. Lots of hp and torque like a big block but less wieght and cheaper parts

Just use the 289 and throw some decent parts at it. It'll rev like crazy, and it'll definately make enough power to get out of it's own way.

hehe, true, it was an idea... well i would use a small block but the cars that i'm goin against here arn't exactly 'childs play' (not saying small blocks are childs play, but big blocks get more hp per part)

yea, well i've desided what im gonna do it take the 289 (which is actully a 302 block, i guess the block craked or somthing) and bore ti out .30 or MAYBE .60 and put a 351 crank in it, then it will be a 358, or a 363, or somthing like that, just that i can't afford the engine i want right now, nor insurance, i'll just see how many ponys i can rip out of this little beast

A 289 is very different from a 302 block. You def arent gonna just drop a 351W crank in 1.

I don't think boring .60 over on a 302 block is smart. The walls will be a lot thiner which would scare me if it were making decent amounts of HP. Why not just put in a 351 and save yourself the time and money of trying to make one out of a 302?

My vote is with HiFlow5.0. Get the 351, and put some performance parts on it, it just doesn't seem safe with the .60 bore over on the 302.If you do that, you just never know when that engine might give you a kick in the nuts, like this guy.

uhh, yea, i wasn't actully planning to go.60 over, but you guys are awhere that all small blocks are the same physical sizes, a 351 crank could fit into anything(sbf), and the only diffrence between a 289 and a 302 is that a 289's bore is 4.005, and the 302 is 4.004... 1/1000th of an inch

If you want to go with a FE, the parts are out there. You just have to look (which is half the fun). I found a set of 406 heads on Ebay for about $150. They are some good engines if you build them right.
