Transmission swap!

Well as some of you know, my current transmission on my d15b2 is SHOT. The bearings are nicely toasted. Nick Stamper (4G4DStore) and I will be swapping out my transmission tomorrow and replacing it with another DX/LX tranny.

Another problem is that when I am driving the car anywhere above 40 mph, the steering wheel shakes REALLY bad, but when I apply the brakes, it smooths out, even if I am just barely pressing the brakes.

I think it is the left front wheelbearing, and I had the right front bearing replaced about two years ago when I bought the car. Any other possibilities?

Also, the brakes up front are brand new, rotors, calipers, pads, lines, fluid, because the old calipers were sticking and causing uneven pad wear, as well as weakened stopping power, so I had that completely redone.

If you have ever wondered why my car is basically stock, these damn repairs are why. I have taken this car autocrossing ONCE, and babied it for the rest of its existence. I can count the number of times I have pushed it to redline on my hands, and I always keep the oil changed and topped off.

All these repairs are frustrating me greatly, and I am seriously considering buying a new car. Possibly a second generation integra sedan with a manual transmission, or a second generation legend (coupe or sedan) with a manual transmission. Unfortunately these cars are hard to come by with a manual, so the timing would have to be just right if I found one.

I am hoping that Nick has his digital camera so we can document the swap.

his car has hella low miles too so its kinda strange that it has all these problems.

Anyways ... good luck with the tranny swap and all that shit!

I think my car had a very bad time before I owned it. The original owner was a school teacher that only drove it to school and back... but after that a college girl owned it for about 8 months, so I am blaming her... and she drove it to California and back and it spent most of its time there. Oh well, live and learn.
