Flush-mount tweeter placement

Just picked up a set of Focal Polyglass 165 V2 component speakers, and I'm going to install them soon...

What would be the best placement for the tweeters?

Also, where should I mount the cross-overs at? The only place that I can think of that has enough clearance is where the door-mounted seat-belts used to be before I took them out... Either that, or maybe under the dash somewhere, but I don't want them to be too far from the speakers, so I don't know how well that would work...

I would talk to 4G4DStore (Nick) and ask him. He has Phoenix Gold components in his front doors (sedan), so obviously he found a place for the crossovers.

Is probably not the best place for them, but in my brothers 91 I installed the crossovers right behind the CD player under the dash... lots of room back there.

As for the tweeters, I mounted his in his dash right in the corners up close to the window.... wasn't too bad of a spot to mount them, although with them playing so much closer to your ears then the woofers you have to turn the treble down a good bit unless you like an overly high pitched sound (guitar solos sound bad ass though)... other then that, I would mount them as close to the woofer as possible and aiming up towards the head rests so as to best target your ears.

a good spot my friend uses is at the bottom of the A-pillar where it meets with the dash.

look for kick panels that's got the whole deal made for you, you can fit the mid and tweeter right in, it goes down by ur feet, right under the hinge-area

Nah, I don't want kick panels... I want the speakers in the door... I'm making some fiberglass door-pods for them, but the tweeter is going to be mounted higher.

I've got a set up like that. Place the crossover behind the door panel, and the tweeter at the top corner of the door panel under the window towards the front.

This is an old pic...tweeters were placed just a couple of inches in front of the door handle and the 6 1/2 inch woofer were in the stock speaker location...crossovers were strapped inside the door panel.

I think that's exactly what I'll do... put the tweeter just in front of the door-handle like that...

Next question:

How did you cut the holes for them? I was thinking of buying a hole saw bit for my drill and using that... Any thoughts?

You might try a Dremel tool. Or you could use a drill bit to start the center and a skill saw to cut the hole, then use a sander bit in the drill to smooth the edges.

i find that pic i told you i had earlier

the thing with mine is they are 2 1/2" 2 way tweets. they sound kick ass BUT, the mounting was tricky. to mount they have that big as plactic nut you thread on. that was the only spot in the door where it was deep enough and that plastic nut wouldn't hit.

be very selective where you put it. check, double check, hell triple check the spot. i assume those are your original panels and it would suck if something bad happened to 'em.

ps. jer was extremely smart. i give him an A+ for effort. when he bought the componet set he got a 2nd pair of the tweets...that way if one ever goes bad i have another for the big ass hole in the door

Reading Audio Mags for awhile now, and i've learned the most recomended place to mount tweeters is on those pillar things that are on either side of your windshield. Its very easy to make em' fit too. . i have mag' articles but no scanner.. all they did.. was cut hole for tweeter, get bondo and Kitty Hair ( Long fiberglass strands ) And make yer desired shape . . and so on.. Yea, i'd do the crossovers in the door panels also..

PS: are those Digital Audio ??
