replaceing cd deck and speakers
Hello Everyone. I just purchased my new 2003 Civic EX Coupe 2 weeks ago and I hate the sound system. I'm looking to replace the cd deck with a SONY CDX-M850MP and a MTX Thunder4244 for an amp. I am getting 2x 10inch subs to put in the trunk from a friend for free.
I want to replace the speakers also since they are small and suck. Does anyone have any suggestions? I noticed on my factory cd deck that it's shaped kinda weird, on the right side it kind of curves alittle. Will that sony fit in there ok and/or is there some kind of mount i should be aware of? If there is anyone that could give me any suggestions or comments that would be great. I love the civic! Thanks!! |

Your 2003 coupe sounds like my 2002 so there should be like a storage area under the cd deck. There is a kit you can buy that goes in place of the deck and the storage area that leaves an opening that will fit probably fit your sony (my panasonic did) and replaces the storage area with yet another one(before the kit mine had a little flip door, now its just open). Hope that helps some.
Oh yeah I bought the kit through a local car audio place.

Crutchfield very helpful. If you order from them they give all mounting kits, wiring adapters, & shit like that for free. order a head unit for a specific car, they pre-wire it & all you do is plug it in.

crutchfield is great. you can usually find anything they have for slightly cheaper at wholesale sites, but their tech support is legendary. they send you kits, adaptors, instructions, whatever you need. and you can call them and the guy/girl will literally sit there and walk you through it if you need the help.
as far as the cd deck goes, i really dont like sony, but thats just an opinion i guess. kenwood, alpine, blaupunkt, and clarion are all great. i have a pioneer right now but its kinda bugging me. cds always come out really hot and i had to warranty it once because the display freaked out on me. speakers...whatever size your car came with, youre probably going to have to stick to that size unless you want to do custom work. kenwood eXcelon, infinity kappa, and alpine type R are great, and my favorites so far are diamond audio HEX. ok enough rambling. good luck
