ABS light came on....

I took my Montana to Florida earlier this month. When i was cruising thru Nashville i hit some rough payment and the ABS and TCS lights came on. They stayed on still i got to the hotel a good ways ahead. I turned the van off then started it back up no ABS lights came on. When we left the next morning no light came on. Ever since then i have no ABS lights come on since. So am i ok and why would they come like that for a brief period of time? I thought about scanning the computer to see if it stored any codes from that but never have.

Nope your not ok. The computer set a code when the light came on. It has not had the same event happen again so the light didn't come back on. Being that the trouble is in your brakes TAKE IT IN! or scan it. THe important thing is to find out what is wrong. BTW, I take it personally when anybody neglects their brakes, because it's not just your life you're playing with. So if I came off as offensive sorry.

hey Blue there is the reason I had my airbags and abs removed from my car.... the ABS on my fathers van was to touchy and would kick in even under semi normal braking ( a little more pressure then normal but no where to the extreme) or not at ALL, the dealer ( 3 of them) said they were working fine and there was no problems ( not even the ABS idiotlight would turn) because of that my fathers van spun hit a soft shoulder did a 450 and slammed into a hydro pole doing 110kph snapping the pole in 3 places..... ever since that day I don't trust those contraptions to control my car I would rather spin out in a ditch and do semi damage to my car then to loose control and head into oncomming traffic....

just so you know he was driving a 1995 Ford Aerostar sport... since that day we replaced the van with a 1992 Aerostar EXT Eddie Bauer Edition which I had the ABS disabled on it, I also had the ABS removed from my mothers 94 Audi wagon and my 91 Chevrolet Tempest...
oh to get around the safty and the ministry checks I rewired the consoles I wired the abs and the Airbag lights to the temp and the alternator idiot lights the ministry is none the wiser as long as it lights they asume is working

all and all rubberman take it to your dealer immediatly if you want to contimue to drive saftly

I know what you mean. I trust none of that electronic crap. Look at what I drive. Well, anyway the story goes... I was working for the summer at a chevy dealership as an intern tech. In comes a white C-5 vette that has, among other problems, an issue with the active handling. So after fixing the other stuff, out we go on a test drive. We go around the block, and are almost back when my mentor shifted from 2nd to 3rd at 30-35mph. For some unknown, undetermined reason the car spins out of control. We hit the curb on the opposite side of the road and are promptly hit by a minivan with kids in it. Look around afterwards one rear brake locked and then the other. Sufficing to say that was a bad day.

ABS and airbag lights come on when their is a problem and go out after the problem is gone. As long as the light is on the problem is there and the system is disabled!

I suspect you drove thru some water or rain the wires got wet when they dried out the lights went off. If you get a spray bottle with a salt solution in it and soak the wires you might see your problem.
