What is this engine ???

Hello People I have a block that I cannot understand what it is. Any help you could give me would really help.
Block ID #CE952049 CE is chevy engine warranty or over the counter engine
Crank ID #8904815NF
Cylinder head ID #3981063
Intake manifold ID #3931067=396 / 350 69 Nova, Chevelle, Camaro Cast Iron, Oval Port, Hi-Rise, Q-jet carb

So everything points to a 1969 396 but the bore in the cyclinder is 4.25 not 4.0 or 4.1 so I am super confused why would someone use a 427 block with a 396 crank? I have not pulled out the rods yet so I do not know the length yet. The motor is frozen.

Thank you in solving this mystery

Re: What is this engine ???

The block ID number you listed does not appear to be a casting number, but a engine/vehicle ID. Have you checked mortec.com?

Re: What is this engine ???

BTW, 427 = 4.250" bore x 3.76" stroke. Hopefully that crank has been balanced for the 427.

can't find a listing for you head casting number, please double check it. also the casting number off the top of the rear of the engine might help to identify it better

Re: What is this engine ???

head casting # 3931063
engine casting#3904815NF
Block ID ‪#‎CE952049‬ CE is chevy engine warranty or over the counter engine
Crank ID ‪#‎8904815NF‬
Cylinder head ID #3931063
Intake manifold ID #3931067=396 / 350 69 Nova, Chevelle, Camaro Cast Iron, Oval Port, Hi-Rise, Q-jet carb

SORRY ABOUT THE CONFUSION ON THE NUMBERS

Re: What is this engine ???

3904815NF is the cast crank id number, not the block casting number

Because a 396 crank (3.76" stroke) is the same as a 427 crank (3.76" stroke) and the factory wouldn't necessarily cast two different crank blanks, but just machine them differently for balancing the heavier 4¼" pistons of the 427.

Go to mortec.com and try to find a specific "1969 427 crank" casting number.

Re: What is this engine ???

Did Mr. Veneno ever figure out what engine he's got?

I'm thinking that Post #7 got him straightened out.
