02 Reverse No Longer Working

Hey! My reverse just gave out on me. I have 2002 Chevy Silvarado 1500 with 198,000 miles on it. I'm no good with vehicles, so i was reviewing some other posts about this happening, and they said that it was either a connector switch or a SUN SHELL that gave out. I need some help understanding this.

Re: 02 Reverse No Longer Working

Sun shell, very common, not an electrical issue.

the transmission switch may be the problem. if the transmission works properly in the forward gears , and you have done the fluid filter servicing at regular intervals at this mileage these switches do act up. the other time these switches fail is when the transmission has be replaced/removed for repair then the switch gets messed up.

sunshell cracked is a common problem. dexron III eats at the shell since it turns into an acid around 20K miles. this weaken the shell and then it cracks. with this failure the transmission pressure will drop and you get all gears failing.

I would have a transmission shop check the GM drive trains codes and do the transmission pressure check to see if it is electrical or valve damage.
