Newbie 325i ??

Hi Im currently looking at a 1987 325i sports coupe, its a Manual 5spd.
The problem is its not a runner, as in the guy tells me its got a blown head gasket. Are these heads prone to problems? if so are they repairable?, if not are cylinder heads becoming hard to come find? Can you order cylinder rebuilt from a site anywhere? IS there anything else I need to have a close look at. Is the car goin to be worth it at the right price if it just requires engine work.
Thanks for any input.
