Radar Detectors

What's the best radar detector for under around $150? I figer since one of my speeding tickets cost meeh $150, I might as well buy a radar detector to save meeh from another one. Any suggestions?

Dont bother, they're shit. Dont want a speeding fine? Dont speed. Simple. By the time the detectors "detect" something, you're busted, and if they catch you with one....

the only GOOD radar detectors are Escorts. Specifically the 8500 and the new cordless one reviewed in Sport Compact Car. I sold them, and I use them, and I have tried all of the brands, and I only trust escorts. The Valentines are a waste of money. For 150 you can't get jack shit for detectors. Try at least 300. Don't bother with anything cheap, because you get what you pay for.

You got it man!
I was talking to the canadian MTX sales rep, And he was telling me about
an add on you can get for the escorts. There is a code blocker that sends the radar gun a error message. Unlike the others that just scramble the signal. The escort one's actually say error on the radar gun, Thus making the cop think he set the gun up wrong.

Talk about a Stealth radar system!!

plus the escorts have 2 microprocessors that can handle up to 8 signals (8500 model) at the same time, and it supports the new emergency message system used by some government agencies that tells devices that support it what is up ahead on the road. for instance if there is an accident on the freeway, it will tell your detector that, so you can be aware and slow down in advance.

radar detectors are legal in every state but DC and virginia, but a cop is WAY more likely to give you a ticket if he sees you using one.

fuck a detector, you need a radar/laser jammer.

they scramble the signal to the police gun so it shows like 300mph on the radar gun, it wouldnt hold up in court.

jammers / phasers are illegal as hell, and in most states if a cop's detector does get jammed up and display something like 300mph, then they have reason to pull you over just to check for a jammer.

correct me if im wrong, but where i live (lebanon, PA) it is illegal for a police officer to use a radar gun in the city limits, and a couple miles out, they can only clock you. Is that true?

do you guys have photo radar? I know when I lived in Alberta they were everywhere. I don't know if they have them in the states yet. Basically it is a vehicle at the side of the road or hidden off to the side. they have a radar gun and a camera attached to the front of the vehicle. When you drive past if you are speeding it takes a picture of your plate and they send a ticket to the registered owner. BUT I heard if you go past at 180 km/h the camera can't react fast enough from the signal from the radar and it doesn't get your pic!

photo radar is in the states, haven't seen it in my area, but it's pretty easy to spot.. all this bulky equipment on the front of an unmarked ford crown vic or a chevy caprice...
