custom and limited lesabre

My dad is looking into getting a 2000 or newer lesabre for my mom and he said he wants a limited over a custom. What are the price differences between the two and what different features are in the two and what do they share? I would like to help my dad get the best price on one and the best features.

I don't know much about the price differences. And that varies greatly depending on equipment anyhow. When my dad bought his 2000, they were trying to get him to get a loaded custom rather than a limited, because he did not want to spend the money.

Moreover, I know there is at least one feature available on the limited that is not available on the custom. The automatic climate control. That's probably the biggest.

In 2000 they changed the paint scheme for the limited and custom. The rocker panels and other very low trim on the limited is not painted, it is gray plastic. On the custom, it is the same color as the rest of the car.

The number one most important option on the LeSabre in my opinion is the elusive Gran Touring package which gives you a completely re-worked suspension and steering. You can drive the two cars and feel a dramatic difference but even most salesmen at buick don't know about it. I spent two months shopping for a used 2000 limited with gran touring, not easy to find. You get magna steer and tighter shocks and struts basically, the magnasteer provides a variable assist steering rack that really improves handling, its tighter and more responsive. Plus you can take it to any dealer and with a little talking convince the mechanic to bring out his Tech 2 scan tool and recalibate the magnasteer to make it as tight as you like. The Default factory setting is wimpy, I believe the bonneville SSEI uses the same rack but they make the default calibration tighter. Mine now feels tighter than my friend's SSEI, thanks to spending long nights reading my shop manuals. Oh gran touring also gives you a rear sway bar and a higher final drive ratio for more take off power. These are fundamental tweaks that really make it feel very sporty to drive. There is no badging, nothing to tell that you have the package except the RPO code list on the spare tire cover in the trunk and the fact that you will have unique rims, in 2000 they were a spider web shape with the lug nuts exposed, 16 x 6.5 of course. Gran Touring came available on both limited and custom, I saw both while shopping for mine, fortunately since most dealers seem clueless to this package they didn't charge me any more for it, I just quietly noted the rims, then confirmed it on the RPO code list in the trunk.
