BMW M 1 Procar in 1/12 scale

Hello,
here is my newest project i started today.
I want to make an iconic german racecar from the beginning 80ths.
The BMW M 1 Procar series car in 1/12 scale.
So i started to take a deeper look onto my BMW M 1 from Carrera Structo.

So i start to remove the body holders inside the body and close the hole for the antenna.
Next is to start a picture research of the real car and see what i must correct on the body.
I also will do a measurement of the body dimensions and the wheel/tires that come from Carrera.
At the moment i dont know how correct their size is or not.

This will be an on and off work in progress. Its only for me to fill my lunch time break at work with some modeling stuff.
In the meantime my work on the porsche rsr will continue.

I hope i become a lot of feedback from you guys?

regards
Christian

Re: BMW M 1 Procar in 1/12 scale

Hi,
some work was going on with the bmw.
You can see on the pics the biggest mistake from my carrera body.

The RC model got complete wrong fenders at the back. The rc car runs onto massive rear wheels, but the original got 16" at the front and at the back.
Thank god that the tamiya porsche 934wheels are the right size.So i can use this wheels with some changes.
But the fenders must be changed at the back.
So i made a small mold with putty and remove the fenders and try to construct some new shape.
More to come.
regards
Christian

P.S: I have checked the roof size again and again, but i think the roof got the right size. Its only some half mm wrong, but not enough for me to change it.It looks wrong, but every measurement i made says that its ok.

Re: BMW M 1 Procar in 1/12 scale

Today i tried to change the wrong rear fenders.

So i make some drills and cut the fenders out.
Some piece of ureol was my stencil for the shape and so i cut the fender in parts and put it together with the right rounding.
With lot of putty i put it in place.

Thats way better than before,i think?
Quickly do the other side and tomorrow is sanding time.
Thanks!
Christian

Re: BMW M 1 Procar in 1/12 scale

Hi,
some new pics from the bmw today.
The rear wing was molded.

The body got the first layer of priner. Now i can make the fine parts.

No more changes to the shape of the body.Thats good enough i think. Some more sanding to some edges and a place for the fuel cap must be made.Thats all for now.
regards
Christian

Re: BMW M 1 Procar in 1/12 scale

Chris are u sure the roof is ok in dimensions? it really seems much taller than original car, also looking at door window frame.
It seems to me it is the windshield moulded with the wrong angle, making all the roof looks upper in position.
I was looking this pic:

Of course dont come mad after this shape details Chris, is just to know your opinion.

I have to sleep a night over and than i made a decision.

Thanks my friend for your thoughts!

Re: BMW M 1 Procar in 1/12 scale

..but I also know how it works with forum comments . It happened the same to me when I was rewowrking the ESCI rsr turbo in 24. Other modellers pointed out the shape mistake and my first idea was..nono never. And note for now I have no plan to finish such rsr...
2 days of sleep and wanted to change it.And I did.

Do as you prefer my friend.
For sure,u have all the skills to make it perfectly and quite fast also. the rework of the wheels arches was much more harder, and too many others here think surely as I do.

dont hate me Chris...is just nut modelling ..

Re: BMW M 1 Procar in 1/12 scale

Dont worry Paolo,i dont hate you.

but i dont know how to do it at the moment?
When i change the angle of the frontwindow,i become i bigger windsrceen.
So i must change the hole height of the roof. But when i do this i must changes everything at the back.
Maybe i make a cut through the first air out take at the back-Cut it and sand some 2 mm down to make a new roof line.Than cut the first a-pillar and change the angle.

Any thoughts how this could work?

Re: BMW M 1 Procar in 1/12 scale

World exclusive...........the first BMW M1 Procar Cabriolet!

After Martin from a german modellboard and my friend Paolo told me the same,i put the saw in my hands and cur the roof off.
I will change the height and took 2mm off.
Also the roof lengths will be shorten by 2mm.
So the a-pillar will get a wider angle, more correct to the original.
I will tomorrow see if this gone work?
Cross fingers!
regards
Christian
