COMPRESSOR for Air conditioner is fried

Well aa year back, my dad said, the air con doesnt work, well that was ok, it was winter, now in Israel, its June, and getting hotter and hotter, we thaught the air con needed gas, but there was some sort of leak !

A new compressor is needed, and it costs $400 here, with no money, my dad can not fix it, and dirving in 100 degree heat is not fun !

Is this commom with cavaliers ? my family has a 96 sedan, and i personally think its a shit car, petrol is expensive in israel, and the car drinks to much of it, the window motors, got fried, one is burnt and the window can not be open, the shocks are also in bad condition, every bump you go over you heara squick !

It seems the cavalier is only good for the US, and not other countries, i personally think its a bad car, that is my opinion.

Are screwed up compressors common in cavaliers ?
