Annoying Auto Lingo
Anybody have any pet peeves?
N/A or NA = Naturally Aspirated, not Non-Aspirated or Normally Aspirated. Here's the reason why, in case you're wondering. A Non-Aspirated engine will not run. It gets no air. Normally Aspirated implies that Turbocharging or Supercharging isn't "normal." What if you were talking about high performance import cars? It's pretty "normal" to see a turbo on them. Naturally Aspirated means the incoming air is pulled through the engine via the pumping mechanisms present as the pistons (or rotor) pulls and pushes air up and down (or in a circle) (or side to side in a boxer). Tyres: Learn to speak American English if you want respect ![]() Cadillac Converter: What does it change the Cadillac into? A Mustang? It's Catalytic Converter. NOS: NOS is a brand name, it stands for "Nitrous Oxide Systems" not a material or object. N20 is Nitrous Oxide. N20 stands for 2 atoms nitrogen, 1 atom oxygen. Nitrous Works or NOS or any number of other manufacturers may build a Nitrous injection system for the car. If you do not have a Nitrous Oxide Systems nitrous injection system on your car, you are incorrect in labelling your car as having NOS. CAI: This refers to an air filter, not an intake modification. It's actually short for Cold Air Induction. Full Exhaust System: This refers to header(s), catalytic converter/H/Y/I pipe and a catback system. A catback system does not qualify. Anybody else feel like chiming in?

Those are some pretty annoying lingo's! I hate that whole, Dude you got NOS?
I also find when talking about the 4.6L motors and if you refer to it as a "Mod" motor, people think it means the motor is modified. Not that the parts are interchangeable with other ford cars. Or when some says you have "Posi" (positive traction), referring to my mustang. I say no, and they wonder how I left two big black patches if I don't have "Posi." I must tell them that Posi was a name created by Chevy, and Ford uses the term "Limited Slip." I'm sure this could go on all day with different automotive clichés.

My Z has a limited slip posi and it is jacked up with NOS and a flowmaster exhaust, and the 5.0 hood added 30 hp.

You must understand that most people mean mufflers when they ask exhaust, it's just lingo, like some people say soda, some say coke(for all pop) or some say pop. It isn't for lack of knowledge unless they drive a ricer
