g20 vs. wrx

well my brother just picked up a wrx, thank god now my g can get a much needed rest. Well what can i say i've been driving it to school and laying a nice beat down on it (it's payback time) and i can honestly say that thing hauls some serious culo. i was however dissapointed with the handling. There seems to be more body roll than in the g. The wrx is easier to rotate where as the g has a pretty tight ass. THere also a lot of turbo lag. there is absolutely nothing going on before 3000 rpm. So if u want to race one with your g's just tell him he can't go past 3000 and i guarantee a victory..lol The interior is pretty basic, you can'tget leather , no sunroof option and the stereo is absolutely horrific. the sound seems like it's coming out of a pepsi can. When pushed hard into a turn there seems to be more understeer than in the g but let off the gas and the ass comes around smoothly and controllably. i was caught off guard the other day.. i came into a turn a little overzealous and let off the gas a little and the back kicked out. The g is more predictable. Styling, well what can i say it looks like a giant fly from the front. This car is all about function over form. the seats are more supportive thatn the g but are not as comfortable. The gears are really long too, a lot of downshifting is necassary to keep the car at full boost. All in all it's fun to drive and like i said very fast, it's cool to pull up to someone knowing you can take them but i rather lose and look good doing so.

I think the NA SR20VE with little tweaking would put the G alongside the WRX and it would kill it up to 3000rpm.

Anyone fitted the VE head to the SR20DE yet?

Hehe. If I were inclined to street race (I abhor street racing) I would eat WRXs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Just install a DET in your G.

Meanwhile George, Street racing (fun wise) eats you for breakfast, lunch, dinner, sunday brunch, and snacktime.

Not any recent ones unfortunately. Somewhere on this forum is a photo from the SE-R national convention this year. It's probably the only relatively current photo (but pre-turbo). I keep meaning to take some, but most of my weekends have been crazy lately. The next two will be as well. I have a 6 hour race at Texas World Speedway this weekend and next weekend we'll have the 4th Annual Day After Thanksgiving Geekout. One of these days.

For older photos and my other stuff, just click on the homepage button at the bottom of this message.

I believe the wrx has passive rear wheel steering, and even though they have body roll, they still handle VERY well, at least the 2.5rs does. I can't see how the WRX would not be that good. If they still come with those Potenza RE92's, that may be one reason for lack of handling. Nothing a set of pirelli's or yoko's won't fix. As for the turbo, they run high boost and that's why the lag. Unless you have a twin turbo or it's a low-pressure turbo, you have that. My TSI is the same way, nothing below 3000rpms. I'd really like to see a sr20det vs. the WRX and the Lancer EVO 7.

To George: how much boost are you running and at what rpms do you get full spool-up?

We should be comparing Nissan's comeptition to the WRX overseas (well sorta). The Nissan Pulsar GTi-R !!! That little hatch could hang with a WRX in stock trim no problem. I'd be willing to guess it could walk from a US spec WRX too. Too bad you can't make one legal to drive here in the US without a truckload of money.
