From http://www.trishield.com/History/heritage.shtml
The division's founder, David Dunbar Buick, was building gasoline engines by 1899, and his engineer, Walter L. Marr, apparently built the first automobile to be called a Buick in 1900. But Buick traditionally dates its beginnings to 1903. That was the year the company was incorporated, refinanced and moved from Detroit to Flint, Mich. The first production Buicks were built in Flint in 1904.
