Questions...B17a swap into Civic
I'm considering doing a B17a swap into my 92 Civic. Anyone know much about this engine (ie-price range, where to get one, aftermarket support, reliability). Also, does anyone know if this is a hard swap to do? Once done, how do standard bolt on parts fit (ie-CAI, headers, exhaust, even turbo)? Would I use 92-93 Integra parts or civic? Any and all suggestions are welcome.

it will fit, the b17a needs to come out of a 92-93 teg, ( pretty sure on those dates but don't quote me, as long as it is OBD I ), you can use any B series engine parts on it, ex. dc sports 4-1 header for a 99 civic si, will fit your car. the swap is cake, really easy, a novice swap. you can use your mounts, depending on if your car is a vtec model you may have to wire up the vtec. here is a quick pic of my engine right after we put it in, i still have a few wires hanging around but like i said we just finished, and i know the blue valve cover is gay but i have a chrome one now, it was just a quick thing.

yes, you're right 92-93 Teg GS-R.
but I have to ask...why a b17? probably harder to find, though probably gonna be cheaper than a b16 or a b18. and not bad HP at 160. but...and this questions was inevitable in this thread....why not a b18c1? probably a slightly more difficult, but not much, swap, 10 more HP, 1.8 vs. 1.7 L displacement, and lil better built for forced induction later on (if you want). granted, much much more expensive than a b17a1 would be, but probably easier to find. just wonderin. and...did you try www.hmotorsonline.com yet? or, www.hybridrevolution.com and check the search function for other sites to buy engines. good luck

my friend has a b17a in his 90 civic hatch, he found it in some redneck junkyard and picked it up for 250 $ and picked up the rear disc conversion and front hubs for 100 $ so if you can find a deal like that then take it...shit i would.

yeah the only thing is that you'll have to do the cable to hydro conversion. if you decide to use that tranny i mean

I'd definitely go with a hydro tranny, way better than cable IMO. As for reasoning in getting a B17, mainly price difference. It also has a better R/S ratio than a B18b1 though as you said, the B18c series is a little better built. Against the B16, it is again slightly less expensive, and alows for higher revs (up to 10,000 I've read, moded). It can also handle boost (not moded) up to around 13-14psi. They are also fairly plentiful as everyone tends to do the B16 or B18 swaps. But when it is all said and done, it's all about cost. I'm paying my way through college right now and don't have a lot of $. The extra $1000 for 10 more HP and 10 more lbs/torqu (ie-B18 engine) aren't worth it for me. As I know not where to look, any suggestions as to where I might find one?

I would imagine b-series parts would fit...but might wanna check

if you get the b17 and later on decided to go ls/vtec then you already have the ideal crank for it. and any b series header will work. i forgot about the cable to hydro conversion, but for the price it still maybe cheaper i don't know i never looked around for a b17. check ebay about cable to hydro conversion kits. the b17 that is in my friends car is a 90 hatch so its already cable. i would say go h22. for under 3k you can have all of the parts that you need, and if you know neone that does honda swaps then you can save on labor ( 3k not including labor ). my friend has an h22 hatch and we put it in and he spent less than 3k, and got DSS stage 1 axles. if a b17 is what you want thought then damn it, go out an get urself one.

If you have big plans AND can see them thru, then maybe get the LS/VTEC, LS, and turbo these people speak of. If you just have enough, and are trying to "just get it done" get the stock VTEC motor. Think about the present now.
