Andrew Luster is finally going to serve his time

Rapist Max Factor Heir En Route to U.S. for Long Jail Term

By Pablo Garibian

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico (Reuters) - Max Factor heir Andrew Luster, a fugitive convicted rapist arrested in Mexico this week, was being flown back to the United States on Thursday to serve long jail time.

Luster was captured on Wednesday in a spectacular swoop as he was being abducted by a U.S. bounty hunter called Duane Lee "Dog" Chapman and two of his sons in the Pacific resort of Puerto Vallarta.

He was deported on Thursday morning after Mexican officials ruled he had entered the country illegally.

A U.S. law enforcement source said Luster's flight was already in the air and would arrive at Los Angeles International Airport at about 12:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. EDT/1930 GMT) after a stopover in Houston, Texas.

Luster, whose personal fortune is estimated at around $30 million, jumped bail during his trial in January and was convicted in absentia by a California court of sexually assaulting three women.

He was sentenced to more than 120 years in prison.

The Max Factor heir had stayed in the modest Los Angeles hotel -- coincidentally located next door to the police headquarters in Puerto Vallarta -- since June 15.

The 39-year-old cosmetics heir was collared by the bounty hunters when he was about to check out.

"Dog" Chapman jumped on Luster in the street at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, bundled him into a van, and raced toward the airport in a bid to get him back to the United States and claim his reward, according to local police.

But passers-by alerted police, who in turn chased the fugitive (news - Y! TV), his captors, and two other men who said they were members of a U.S. television crew -- arresting them all.

Hotel manager Oscar Lopez said he charged Luster, a surf fanatic, $30 a night for the room, which he paid in cash.

"He's a client here. He came to surf, we met him last year. I gave him a discount because I thought he was an eco-tourist," Lopez said.

Luster surfed every morning and went by the name David at the hotel and did not give a surname, although local police said he called himself David Carrera.

Mexican officials said on Thursday that Chapman, a muscular father of 12 who once served time for murder and is now a born-again Christian, could face kidnapping charges.

Chapman's wife, Beth Smith, 35, who runs a bail bonding company with him, said her husband had planned to charge "a couple of hundred thousand" dollars for capturing Luster.

Christians that break the law always fascinate me.....especially when they then plan to extort money from the government.....

Kinda like those people with the Christian fish on the back of their car aside the 'Jesus Saves' sticker and speed by you well over the speed limit, makes me go
