Angry Gas pedal response........

When ever I'm driving may it be stop and go traffic or regular long stretch of road. And say you wanna gun it or try to pass someone or something. The truck not only hesitates...but doesn't go anywhere. Like I can put the pedal ALL THE WAY ON THE FLOOR. I'm talking I can touch the floorboard with my toe...and the truck just goes "ggrrrrrrr......vrrrrrrrmmmmm......." and you can sorta feel the tranny try but it's nothin. I know it could be one of a few things. Either it's outta time and needs a new timming chain and get re-timed,the transmission is slipping,or I need to check the tranny linkage. But I highly dought it's the tranny of the rear-end. When you are at a light and you eeeaaaasssse onto it it will lurch and luanch pretty well. After that it just sound like it is working really hard and wont do no more like it refuses or something. I'm really stombed because I don't want to fix it and it end up being something else. Can anyone help me out ?

Throttle body injection right? I just worked on a suburban that had the same problem, when I would floor it, it just sat there and chugged. I moved the distributer a little bit and it fixed the problem.

Talking

Well I didn't mean for it to sound liek that. But then again I didn't want to do all that typing and then no one respond to it. Anywho it's a 87' GMC 1/2 ton sierra classic. about 187,000 miles on it or so I'm taken a random guess(haven't looked). 305 TBI motor I just put a new head on the driver side. The passenger needs one too. That's about it I don't know what else you wanna know other then that. Ummm...is there anything else ?

Re: Gas pedal response........

Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft sensor.
Faulled Injectors.
Intake manifold leak.
Never ever "... moved the distributer a little bit and it fixed the problem.", with out using a timing light. You could end up with more problems than you already have.

Just to mention a few things to check.

Many good suggestions already -- Consider also trying the Mass Airflow Sensor; that was it on my 97 C1500/350 Sub and I was having very similar symptoms. The MAS is VERY easy to replace, though the part is more expensive than those for some of the other suggestions. If you' decide to do this, try to find a parts house with remanufactured MAS units, as "new" units really are pretty steep. Also, on reman units, there's a core charge to recover when you bring back your original (like an alternator, water pump, etc.).

Once I replaced the MAS, my Suib was like a totally new vehicle -- so much ZIP and responsiveness that I was shocked; so my guess is that these MAS units go out so slowly that you never really notice anything is going downhill - until one day, you realize that it really isn't running like you want.
