I am a gm tech and have encountered many of those engines with fuel pressure regulators that have a ruptured diaphram. What happens is the fuel begins to get into the vacuum line and cause the vehicle to run rough aswell as smeel like fuels. Take the vacuum line off of the regulator(on the drivers side of the engine towards the rear of the fuel rail.)and smell it. If you smell fuel you got the problem! replace it! let me know!

Thought I would renew this thread. Have a 2000 6.0L that runs great. Recently after shutting off and then trying to restart truck it would not stay running. Had to pump the gas pedel and rev engine and then it would run. Took it to dealer and they replace fuel pressure regulator becuase it had a ruptured diapharm. Truck ran fine for one day. Now have same problem and back at dealership. Naturally it running fine and dealership cannot find a problem. They plan to keep it overnight and check again tomorrow. Last night we just about had to push the pickup into the garage because it wouldn't stay running.
What else should I mention to the dealership to check. I already suggested to them the new fuel pressure regulator was probably a bad part?? I smelled fuel when I pulled the vaccuum line. But this may have been residual fuel from the previous regulator they replaced? Any suggestions? |
