times they are a changing.

I wasnt sure whether I should put this in philosophizing or here, so mods, do what you see fit. but here goes.

Have you ever known someone for a while, and they moved and you wondered what they were up to? Well, I found out, to my dismay, just what one of these people who were formerly in my lives has been up to.
I must say that what I learned disappointed me. She moved from my town to georgia about 8 months ago a young girl with a smart mouth and very little common sense, but all and all a good head on her shoulders. Her sister was bad news and I figured something would happen that should would influence this girl in the wrong way. I was right. She is a drug addict who pops perscription pills and does pot whenever she gets the chance. Her sister got her started. She drinks a lot, almost failed her SOPHOMORE year of High School. She's recently discovered LSD and cocaine and has become addicted to that as well. And to top it all off, she is meeting up with 20 year old guys whom she's met on the computer. She's 15 years old. This saddens me so much. A life wasted because of ignorance and stupidity. She wont change. She's told me herself that she likes these drugs too much to give them up. So you know what? Im not going to do anything to stop her. I could do all the preaching in the world to her and it wouldnt make a damn bit of difference. Pity. Such a waste.

Sometimes the only way for people to learn that shit stinks is for them to step in it themselves; I'm sur you've done what you could have to help but that person must want to change for themselves.

It's kinda coincidental that you brought up this topic. I have a number of frineds/people relatively close to my family that have gone this way.

I have a friend right now who used to essentially be somebody I could always depend on, somebody who udnerstood what I was goign throguh in HS. We both broke away from our old social caste simultaneously and went our spearate ways. We still tlaked often althoguh we led somewhat differnet lives. As time passed, he tired of his new group and essentailly became a rogue with a few other outsiders. I'm quite settled now, but he has taken the path of drugs and hasn't shown up for school in months (Last year of HS) and although he keeps steady work his life is not going anywhere quick. I suppose he may try to get thingsback ont rack, but the chances form that seem to be fading more and more everday. When I do talk to him the conversations are mostly about what he's up to and I think he's frequently stoned as well. His parents seem to leave him to do his own thing and except for a few individuals he's been shunned from the group to which he once belonged.

Ive tried to stay away form it all, not because I want to avoid the problem but it's just something I don't need to deal with, it's his life and iI feel it would only degrade me if I got involved.

My sister on the other hand had it much worse.
